You have seen it but don’t know its name
A rare form of art done on velvet background with Bullion wires and silk threads and use of Gold, Silver multi custom colours . Varying from 3D like patterns to minimal design employed in making badges for Uniforms . Its an almost forgotten embroidery style which finds its space only on uniforms and doesn’t touch the commercial domain of marketability . This Hand embroidery involves twirling patterns of wires usually created in single stitch styles ; involves techniques integral to the Indian Craft .
It is a famous piece of Edward Hooper . Its named Nighthawks and portrays people in a downtown diner late at night which illuminates a darkened urban streetscape . It is one of the most recognizable painting in American Art and Hooper’s best work that was sold within weeks of completion to the Art Institute of Chicago . Many artists have reproduced works that allude to Nighthawks , in literature , in film stills , music , theatre & opera, television, scale model , parodied in popular culture .
Rogan Art is centuries old art. Castor oil is the base of the paint and its what gives the art its name. Rogan means oil in Farsi . The oil is heated for two days till it turns into honey like texture . Oil can catch fire anytime therefore this process requires great expertise gained through practise and information of the process . The Rogan thus formed is then combined with pigment to make paint . The use of hand gives it a unique quality to make a thread by swirling it and making it into thin wires . The thread of Rang-and-rogan is spread along the cloth in a pre conceived design pattern to the extend to which the thread can stretch. The artisan runs the other hand underneath the cloth to guide the paint . Before it dries the cloth is folded to produce the design’s mirror image and is a very time taking process . The form of art is almost extinct only one family is keeping the tradition and 400 years old art alive .
You would certainly not guess it to be a temple which it is ; in Samphran District of Thailand. The pink building stands 17 stories tall enveloped by a green scaled dragon . The design of this temple came to the founder during the 7 day fasting meditation. It is 80 meters tall to commemorate the number of years Buddha Lived on this planet.
